Grooming Your Golden Retriever

Golden Retriever's do require basic grooming. Golden Retrievers are a double coated breed. Regular brushing with a bristle brush and with regular use of an undercoat rake will significantly reduce shedding.

Golden Retriever's needs regular bathing. You can bath your Golden as often as you like without worrying about damaging the coat or skin. Using a good quality dog shampoo is key to keeping your Golden clean.

The ears must be kept clean inside and out. The hair on the inside of the ear should be kept thin with the use of thinning shears and regular grooming shears. Hair covering the outer part of the ear and along the edges should also be kept neat. Ear cleaning is a basic requirement in keeping your Golden healthy. Golden Retrievers have a tendency to get ear infections if they are not cleaned regularly.

Don't shave your Golden. As mentioned earlier, the Golden's coat is designed to protect them in any type of weather. The only areas of hair that require grooming are on and inside the ears, the tail and the feet. Their hair should also be kept trimmed.

Their nails should be clipped regularly. Long nails are uncomfortable for the dog and for anyone they might jump on. Long nails can also compromise the shape of your dog's foot, causing it to splay. Check the nails and trim them. Do not cut to close. It is a good practice to trim the nails weekly taking off small amounts each time.

The Golden Retriever's tail should be groomed as well. The best way is to twist the end, put your thumb just below the end of the tail bone and trim the end near your thumb. Then, working from the end, carefully form a fan towards the base of the tail.

Dog Training - Four Tips To Effectively Remove Dog Stain

Every dog owner has experienced how frustrating it could be when their puppy or dog pee in the house. Housebreaking your puppy is one of the most important aspects of dog training. Barely the mere odor of dog pee in the home could be upsetting.

Regrettably, the instance your dog have taken the first step to pee in the house he or she will most likely keep on going on the same spot again and again.

Gosh, those adorable dogs and their precious and clever tricks! Don't we enjoy the way they play fetch and run and jump and come around and lick us affectionately and pee all over the carpet and…

Pee all over the rug? Well we do not love that aspect of dog ownership, now do we?

Dogs can easily be housebroken and trained to let their owners become aware as when they want to go outdoors and make a little weedle or another bigger job, just prior to that happening - and occasionally afterwards also - the inside of your house turns into Rover's marked territory.

The stains and odors of Phydeaux's small mishaps and dishonorable discharges can leave a l ong-lasting impression on carpetings and rugs, furniture, and some other items in your place whenever they are not attended at once.

Whenever you are fortunate enough to catch Duke in the act of alleviating himself all over the Persian rug that was a given to you by your favorite family member, take the steps that have to do with the dog's training and then attend to the poodle puddle immediately.

Utilize a rag or some paper towels to absorb every bit of the mess as possible and then clean the region with a mix of cold or tepid (never hot) water and some sort of cleansing agent.

Peroxide works well at removing the chance of a spot in addition to the smell, but it shouldn't be employed on positive fabrics or dyes.

A dab of dishwashing detergent (the type you use in the sink, not the dishwashing machine) blended with water can do a decent job on these fresh stains also.

As for spots that have been allowed to sit for some time you will require to take somewhat more drastic steps. Organic cleansing agents like Spot Shot acts better on blots like these and should be chosen over chemicals.

If you do decide to apply chemicals, hydrogen peroxide is your friend once more since it can act as a fantastic stain remover. Once again you will prefer to dilute with warm water and apply it to the surface area.

Some scrubbing will be required, but it should be done as gently as possible, depending upon the kind of fabric. If we are talking about carpeting, some vigorous scrubbing will likely be okay since the fibers are designed to handle a bit of a beating.

If the dirty items are washable fabrics like clothing, towels, or small throw rugs, the stains should come out in the wash. Place the item in the washing machine by itself with the regular washing detergent that you'd ordinarily use and a little bit of color safe bleach (whites can and should be done with regular chlorine bleaching agent).

The best way to deal with doggie urine stains is to prevent them from happening to begin with, which can be achieved through careful and meticulous dog training.

If the episodic whoopsie does occur, do not lose your head. Deal with the dog in the suitable fashion and rest at ease in the knowing that, in almost all events, pee washes out.

The health of their dogs is a very important and crucial matter for the majority of owners. Most dog owners want their dogs to be healthy, fit, and to enjoy a long life. There is a major health issue that can affect a dog significantly, and this is dog allergies.

Allergies is dogs are among the most common health issues confronted by dog owners. This is genuinely something to worry about. It is a reality that nearly all puppies don't develop allergies in their 1st year. However, a lot of dogs develop allergies due to their environment.

In case, your puppy exhibits any signs of allergy, you want to take it seriously and seek for treatment. Think that allergies will worsened over time if not treated properly on a timely basis. For very few fortunate dogs, allergies could get better overtime, but in general, once a dog develops allergy they are forever and they worsen over time.

You can spot allergies on your dog's skin in the form of rashes, scratching, skin eruptions, loss of hair, moisture, ear infections etc. When dogs develop allergy, they tend to over wash themselves, rub, chew or scratch. This is not a good sign since they can develop skin outbreaks via scratching.

Dogs develop allergies because they're exposed to pathogens or other materials and affect them afterwards. There are a lot of things that could bear upon your dog and develop allergies such as grass, bushes, molds, trees, mites and fleas. Fleas are the most common cause of your dog's allergy.

You might not even be aware that your dog has fleas. Nevertheless, it only takes a brief period of time for your dog to get them. To preclude your dog from potential allergies, you should protect him against fleas. You could purchase some powerful products that you buy from the pet shop or your vets office to protect your puppy against fleas. These products could be used after a simple blood test.

Remember that fleas can attack from anywhere. Therefore you want to be doubly sure that your dog is living in a protective environment. If there are fleas in your environment you could see fleas in your garden, on your carpet, your furniture and even on your bedding. Hence, you would need to treat your house, pets and yards to eliminate fleas from the environment. The product, you select to use must be safe for the health of your pets. Make certain that the product you use is recommended by a professional veterinarian.

If your dog has been affected by small skin inflammation during the summertime, all you need is to give your dog an oatmeal bath and some antihistamines.

You might also want to visit the vet often if you need to give your dog steroids injections, steroid tablets, change their diet, get flea medicines, special baths and antihistamine. Some dogs also suffer from food allergies and need to be given special care.

You can purchase special diets for your pet dog in this instance. You also need to give only a particular diet to your dog for 60 days and withdraw everything else from their diet.

Allergy testing is the optimal way to learn what sort of allergy your dog is suffering from. You could as well conduct a blood exam to know precisely what they're hypersensitized to.

Whenever you observe signs of allergy in your dog, you want to take him to a veterinarian as soon as possible. This is the best method to fix the problem. The earlier you detect it and try to fix it, the earlier your dog will get rid of the allergy.

Golden Retrievers: Not Good For Everyone

Best selling author Lisa Scottoline has four Golden Retrievers and one Welsh Corgi. She writes about them like this, "When you have a house full of Goldens, you think to yourself, You know, we need a dog". And which dog causes all the trouble in her home? The Corgi. Which dog literally ate part of her finger? The Corgi. Which dog is on doggy Prozac? The Corgi.

This shows the big contrast between Golden Retriever temperaments and the temperaments of most other dog breeds. Although every dog is an individual, for the most part Golden Retrievers are calm, trainable and submissive. However, they need proper nutrition, grooming and exercise to get this good-natured and stay this good-natured. Golden Retrievers aren't the perfect dogs, but for many they are worth their weight in gold for their personalities. If you are ever saddled with a Golden Retriever, you could do a lot worse.

There are some negatives to living with Golden Retrievers that you should prepare yourself for. These will be mild for some people and calamities for others. Golden Retrievers need daily grooming, or they get matted. They shed more than other breeds. It has been said they have more of a doggy odor than other breeds. They also were bred to be Retrievers (hence the name), which means they have a compulsion to pick things up in their mouths and carry them to your home. This can mean they find a big dead rat and carry in into your living room, fully expecting to be showered with praise.

Golden Retrievers, because of their popularity, have been victims of their own success. Some unscrupulous breeders more concerned about how many puppies they can sell as opposed to how healthy the puppies are have over bred them. There is an effort of Golden Retriever breeders to try and reverse health problems that can be passed on through genes. Just to be on the safe side, expect your Golden Retriever to have skin problems, hip dysplasia, eye problems and heart problems.

On the whole, life with Golden Retrievers is a pleasant one, after the initial hyperactivity of puppy-hood (which, in a dog, lasts until they are at least two years old). Golden Retriever definitely need training, attention and vet care, but they adapt well to all three of these. The more you put into your Golden Retriever in terms of time, energy and training, the more you'll get. It is not accident that Golden Retrievers are often the dog of choice for therapy and rescue dogs.

If you look in the media or in advertising, a lot of times when a dog is needed to play a part, that part is played by a Golden Retriever. This shows you what these dogs are capable of. Since they are large dogs, if you are not sure of how to train them, please get a professional trainer to help you. Read dog training books and learn as much Golden Retriever information as you can.

Carol Matthews loves and studies all kinds of dogs, including Golden Retrievers. The Golden Retriever is one of the most popular pets for families. Knowing a lot of Golden Retriever information before buying a puppy can only help as the family adjusts.

Simple Training Methods For Puppies And Dogs

What About Lessons?

Try to make your training lessons interesting and appealing both for you and your dog. It is much better if you teach your dog for 10 minutes at a time, three times a day, than for 30 minutes once a day. The 10 minute session amuses both you and your dog and the attachment which develops between you during these lessons will be timeless. A good time to train your dog is for 10 minutes before you give him his breakfast; then he assumes that the meal is a reward for his being such a good dog. If you follow this schedule for all three meals your training program will be a great success.

Giving Commands:

When you give commands use the shortest phrase possible and use the same word with the same meaning at all times. If you want to teach your dog to sit, then always use the word SIT. If you want your dog to lie down, then always use the word DOWN. It doesn't matter what word you use as long as your dog becomes used to hearing it and acts upon it. Unless you are consistent in your use of commands you can never train your dog properly.

What to Teach Your Dog:

Your dog should certainly learn the essentials necessary to good behavior. First of all, your dog should be housebroken. Then he should learn how to walk properly with a collar and leash, after which he should be taught the simple commands of HEEL, SIT, COME, and STAY. Only after a dog has learned these commands is it safe to train him on a leash. Once your dog gets into the swing of his training it is wise to continue to train him in more difficult performances. After all, the hardest part of the job is establishing a communication system so that each of you learns what to expect of each other. Once your dog learns a trick or a command he will hardly ever forget it if you repeat it every so often. Begging, giving his paw, playing dead and rolling over, are entertaining tricks which you, your family and your dog can enjoy to mutual benefit. There are, however, more important lessons first.

How to Housebreak Your Puppy:

Every house dog should be housebroken. Teaching your dog to relieve himself outdoors or on paper indoors is the most vital part of his early training. You must begin housebreaking while he is still a puppy. Keep in mind the fact that a puppy must be fed more often than an adult dog, and consequently must relieve himself more frequently. Here are some rules in housebreaking.

Housebreaking Your Puppy Outdoors:

  1. Take your dog outside as frequently as possible. If you don't have the time to spend with him outdoors, then tie your dog outside until he has performed his duties.
  2. Start out as soon after meals as possible because puppies will usually relieve themselves right after they eat.
  3. Keep him outdoors until he does his duty. Once he gets used to the idea that he will be allowed indoors again as soon as his duty is completed, he will take care of the job much sooner.
Housebreaking Your Puppy Indoors:

  1. Start teaching your puppy about paper, when he is very young and can hardly walk by himself.
  2. Take your puppy to the paper every time you catch him in the act. It often helps to blot some of his liquid errors on the paper and leave that soiled paper on top of clean paper so he will get to know that this is the place for him to do his duty. It usually takes about a week.

Dog Food Fundamentals

All dog owners recognize that most dogs enjoy to eat, but oftentimes they come across themselves attempting to puzzle out which dog food to purchase. It has been said for the lengthiest time that dogs are our dearest best friends, but the truth presently is that dogs have moved up from being in the best friend category to the family member category. Since dogs are another member of our family we prefer to render our darlings the finest care and that likewise includes the best dog food.

Numerous dogs over time grow sick of consuming the same food, and they become fussy. The pet food that one day they enjoyed to eat, they don't even desire to flavor presently. It's natural for dog owners to look for dog food choices once their dogs do not want to eat their regular food. This is when problem can start out. This is when the dog owners may choose to begin feeding their pet's table food, and by doing so they could compromise their dog's nutrition.

When a dog owner is changing their dog's dietary habits they're vulnerable to giving their dogs additional treats and bites. Practicing this could cause the dog to get fat. Additionally, if the dog owner doesn't over compensate by feeding his dog these goodies or dog snacks, the dog will be pushed to go for what is given to him at mealtimes. It does not really matter if you want to give him raw dog food, premium dog food or gourmet dog food, what matters is to avoid giving your dog any snacks or treats when your dog isn't eating. If you do so, this will just promotes his fussy eating and will perpetuate the fussiness.

Feeding the dog the best food will guarantee that he stays happy , fit and healthy, and besides it helps keep the dog's coat lustrous. Amid the ingredients in almost 99% of dog foods are salt, corn, sugar, phosphates, colorings and artificial flavors.

There's nothing wrong by giving your pet homemade dog food, (this is the type of food prepared for animal pets at home) or holistic dog food (this is natural dog food) merely the dog owner has to be careful to feed the dog on food that will render him with enough nutrition. Numerous dog owners have even decided to feed their dogs' vegetarian dog food or even organic dog food. Feeding your dog with vegetarian dog food is yet harder for many as cooking vegetarian food for your dog could take a long time.

As your dog with home cooked food, the dog owner may want to include rice, corn, oatmeal or wheat. All these are good carbohydrates sources.

An alternative that dog owners could consider is to sum up the home made dog food to a medium quality dog food. If you choose to go this path, you might need to add some nutritional supplementation or vitamins. In that way you will be able to assure good nutrition for your dog at altogether.

Make sure that you scan the labels of the dog food prior to you buying it. It is best that the food contains as primary constituent beef, turkey, or chicken. Attempt to ward off vegetal protein as the principal component for the dog food. Vegetable protein, which includes wheat shorts and middling's, soybean meal, peanut meal, peanut shells (same as cellulose), ground yellow corn and rice husks, is the pillar of dry dog foods.
